The enlargement of the European Union in 2004 brought for Polish immigrants to the UK new opportunities and challenges in terms of social and cultural adjustment. Cultural diversity in the UK is, for many Poles, a new experience as Poland is a relatively homogenous country. This book gives an insight into attitudes among recent Polish immigrants towards ethnicity and race . The author investigates the historical, social and emotional contexts of those perceptions and argues that psychosocial dynamics are at the core of peoples attitudes towards other ethnic groups. Thus, stereotyping and prejudices are present regardless of socio-economic background. However, the author suggests that perceptions of racial inequality in the UK have an impact on Poles attitudes towards non white citizens. The book will be of particular interest to researchers and students in the fields of sociology, ethnic minorities studies, identity and migration, and European studies.
